Bridge for Brain Research Challenge
Nationwide, May 1-7, 2010

§You hold the cards to beat Alzheimer's disease and Dementia§

During the first week of May, over 3,000 Bridge players Australia-wide will be sitting down to the same 36 hands prepared by Ron Klinger and Val Cummings. Each pair is playing to win. Playing to win the prizes, playing to win the points, but most importantly, playing to beat the greatest health challenge of our time - Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.

You might be surprised to hear that Alzheimer's disease is our greatest challenge but it's the unfortunate truth that we are all touched by the effects of this devastating disease that takes a hold of our loved ones. A recent report predicts there will be over 1.1million Australians with dementia by 2050 as dementia becomes the largest source of health and aged care spending.

The Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute, along with the Australian Bridge Federation, Grand Slam Bridge Centre and Bridge players around Australia will again be participating in the Bridge for Brain Research Challenge between 1 - 7 May 2010. The 7th Annual Challenge is tipped to be the biggest yet and we are calling upon all players and clubs to get involved to raise awareness and crucial funds.

So will you "Use it or Lose it?"

Event Details at a glance:

  • The Challenge takes place during 1 - 7 May. We ask each Club/team to select a day to play bridge.
  • Approx 3000- 5000 players around the country participate in the Challenge.
  • A $7 entry fee applies to each participant in your club or group who takes part in the Challenge. This entry fee goes directly to our research and is payable on the day of play.
  • The hand records and commentary will be provided by bridge experts - Val Cummings and Ron Klinger and scored via the Australian Bridge Federation.
  • Prizes are awarded to: Highest points scored by a pair overall; Highest scoring pair in each State and Territory; Highest points scored by a pair over the age of 75; Highest individual fundraiser; Highest fundraising Club/Team.

So, definitely "Use it" and ensure your Club is participating in the Challenge, or get a table together. All players are welcome.
