2008 Grand National Pairs (GNP) GNP Update Modification to rules (20/12/07) Paragraph 4.3 Limit on
total number of sessions. In 2008, the ABF will inaugurate a brand new pairs tournament, the Grand National Pairs Championship of Australia (GNP). The GNP will be played as match-pointed pairs. The GNP is open to players who have not achieved Life Master status as at 1 January 2008. The format of the GNP will be modelled on the format of the GNOT. The tournament will have three stages. Early rounds (Club Selection) will be played in Clubs. Successful pairs from the Club Selection stage will be eligible to compete in a Regional Final. Successful pairs from Regional Finals will qualify for the National Final. The National Final of GNP 2008 will be played in Canberra in January 2009 as part of the Summer Festival of Bridge. Pairs that qualify for the National Final will receive a travel subsidy from the ABF. The subsidy will be sufficient to meet the cost of travel from home to Canberra and return. Gold masterpoints on an extended scale will be awarded at every stage of the GNP. Information about the GNP will be updated regularly. To access this information, click on GNP Update.
