I try to introduce No-Trumps as “in many ways easier than a trump suit, because you don’t have to worry about the trumps”. But I do point out that there “is no safety net” and “when the wheels fall off, they fall off spectacularly”.

1NT may be hard, but it is only 7 tricks, and with good technique they should do ok.

You might need to watch them play a few hands to see if they are establish their tricks.

If not, give them set hands to play where you need to lose a trick to establish a suit (KQJT9) and make them do it correctly.

    Hi Margaret

This is normal for some players. They should be encouraged to study no trump play either via a good text or by doing a Card Play course, or if their avoidance is extreme see a psychologist….. 🙂

Several of our players dislike bidding NoTrumps as they may then have to play the cards in a NoTrump contract as declarer. They are comfortable to raise NoTrumps where they have not bid this first. How do we assist them to overcome this avoidance behaviour?
