Review of the ABF Tournament Calendar

The ABF has been reviewing the calendar of National tournaments so see if it is possible to improve the balance of events through the year. One goal is to move the International Team Selection Playoffs earlier, to give teams more time to prepare for international events.

The document below is a draft of a possible revised calendar to show how events might be rescheduled in future years.

Possible Revised ABF Calendar

Please note that the draft is not meant to refer to a particular year - it merely illustrates how events might fall in a typical year.

Timetable for Possible Change

With one exception, no changes are anticipated before 2013. The exception is the Open and Women's Playoffs to select the the 2013 International representative teams.

The ABF Management Committee is considering bringing these forward to December 2012 to allow more time to prepare and organise overseas representation. This would then allow the Seniors Playoff to move forward to February or March 2013.

At this stage we understand that Tasmania is keen to move the 2013 Australian Swiss Pairs and related events to March, to avoid clashes with New Zealand and (most important!) football finals in Melbourne!

The location and timing of the 2013 ANC Teams and Butler are also under review. South Australia and NSW have agreed to swap dates, so the 2013 ANC will be held in South Australia, and NSW will be the host in 2014. More information will be available as soon as possible.

Your Feedback is Welcome

The review team and the Management Committee have already received a number of comments on State and Territory preferences, and further input is welcome.

It is emphasised that adoption of the changes is subject to agreement of affected parties - particularly the sponsors of each individual event.

We welcome your comments.
