The important objectives are:

  1. To help the Women Players who wish to compete in a National and international Championships, giving them the opportunity to train, playing with their partners against Players from all over the World.
  2. To provide a social event with a good atmosphere

Bridge Book for Women

Australian author Mary Lynch has written a book for women bridge players titled "FREE RANGE BRIDGE Not For Chickens". More details are on her website www.bridgebookforwomen.com.au.

Online Individual Tournament

Starting immediately, there will be a daily online individual tournament just for women on BBO ... the times will be:
16.10 European Time (CEST)
10.10 New York Time (EDT)
02.10 New South Wales, Australia

Details are at www.wbfwomensbridgeclub.org

The entry fee will be BBO$ 1 per tournament as normal. This is not a world championship. The aim is to let the women players enjoy bridge with friends from all over the world and to play in a friendly atmosphere, so playing is more important than to win. After all, each tournament can only have one winner, but everyone who plays can enjoy the challenge, the camaraderie, the fun of participation!

Women's Bridge Fund

For a number of years the ABF has held funds for the "Friends of Youth Bridge". These funds are under the control of the Chairman of the Youth Committee, David Stern. The monies have been used to augment funding for youth activities outside the normal youth budget. The Fund has been very successful both in raising money and in assisting youth players.

The Women's Committee have from time to time had a project outside our budget process. They have not had any "special" funds to fall back on in terms of the Friends of Youth Bridge. I propose that this should be rectified by the establishment of a separate Fund called "Women in Bridge". To this end I pledge $250.00 personally to start the Fund. The expenditure would be under the control of the ABF Women's Committee and administered by the ABF.

I commend the Fund to you all. Donations can be sent to the Secretariat, PO Box 397 Fyshwick ACT 2609.

Women in Bridge Data

The ABF are trying (through Dianne Marler as Zone 7 Rep to the WBF on the Women in Bridge Committee) to gather as much current data on women players and administrators as possible. This will give us a platform and more leverage to be heard at State and ABF level.
