Barb Toohey
Canberra Bridge Club, ACT
How did you discover Bridge? When did you first start playing?
I love cards and played Euchre and 500 from an very early age. I was convinced by work mates (in a savage lunchtime Euchre game) to learn Bridge and I only regret not doing it earlier. Moving to Canberra nearly 30 years ago gave me the time and opportunity to learn.
Why did you decide to become a Bridge Teacher?
I am an experienced teacher and gain lots of satisfaction from helping others to enjoy Bridge. I am still a keen player and a Director but my main focus has become the teaching.
What do you enjoy most about playing/teaching Bridge?
I enjoy the problem solving aspect of Bridge and the pleasure of travelling to a Congress with good friends.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you?
I love to spend a day on the water as a deckhand on the vintage Murray River paddle steamer at the National Museum of Australia, and even better when I get on some of the old paddle steamers on the Murray/Darling River!
