Changed approach reaps huge reward!

The South Australian Bridge Association switched their advertising from the Seniors Lifestyle Guide ($2,500 per year) to the Seniors newspaper ($550 each 3 months, ie 4 classes a year). 

As a consequence, they have experienced huge growth.  The Club manager, Gary Deaton, has advised that he has had to change his day-time classes from Wednesdays to Tuesdays as they are now at full capacity - over 200 people attending on Wednesdays and a new class of 40 people starting.

The Senior Newspaper is read by the over 60s age group.

When providing feedback to the Seniors newspaper Gary was asked to let other States know that the publication has now set a rate standard for any other Region which may be interested. 

This may be of particular interest to larger States as the circulation would be much greater than in South Australia -  which would normally attract a higher advertising cost.

Community Grants

Here are some potential grant funding opportunities which you may wish to explore further for your Region.

  1. Community Sports Club Grant Program - Brisbane City Council.  Funding available to upgrade facilities.  Applications open 1 September and close on 10 November 2014.  Up to $100,000 available.  Successful applicants will be notified in March 2015.
  2. Northern Territory Department of Sport, Recreation and Racing - Facility and Capital Equipment Grant Program.  Funding up to $100,000 over two years available - applications close 15 September 2014.
  3. Qld Department of National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing - Get Going - Funding to help Clubs Grow.  Applications due by 1 September 2014.
  4. Western Australia's Department of Sport and Recreation - organisational development program to improve the active recreation opportunities for regional Western Australians. Applications opened on 1 July and close 20 September 2014.

When completing applications for a grant, make sure you refer to your State Strategic/Business Plan OR if you don't have one, refer to the ABF Strategic Plan 2013-17.  Government Agencies are usually comfortable with organisations which have developed a vision, goals, values etc.
