How did you get started in Bridge? At what age? Who do you learn from?
17 – my Gran got me into it by teaching me the rules and taking me along to a youth bridge fun day. There I learnt that they have youth bridge on every week and started getting to know the other youth in Queensland!
What do (did) you do professionally?
I work as a data analyst/front end web developer 😆
Who is your partner and for how long? Longest Partnership?
Heath and I have been playing together for around 7 months now. My longest partnership was with Zac though – we played together for around 4 years
If you had a choice who would you like to play with? Australia and Internationally – living or dead.
Sabine Auken
In your playing career, what is the bridge success that has the most meaning for you?
Getting onto the U26 team which went to Italy was the most important bridge success I’ve ever had.
And your worst moment in bridge?
I don’t know if I can think of the absolute worst moment, but I remember being very disappointed when Zac and I didn’t make the U26 team in 2024.
What do you do between sessions to put you in the best frame of mind for the following sessions?
Depends how badly I’m going and how much it matters. Usually I’ll just try not to think about bridge and talk to other people, but in more important events I might try breathing exercises, meditation, going for a quick run or doing some star jumps
Do you have a favourite and least favourite convention?
My least favourite convention is Gerber. I don’t think I have a favourite convention honestly.
Would you prefer to have more system or less?
Definitely less. Any partner of mine will tell you I am very prone to forgetting system.
What do you to do to improve your game?
I try and read when I can and practice online with partner. Occasionally I’ll go and have a go at bridge master
Favourite bridge book
I really liked the Rodwell Files
What interests or hobbies do you have besides bridge?
I’ve been doing boxing, sign language classes and making art recently. It’s definitely a mixed bag
What is the number one thing that bridge has done for you as a person and for your life?
I’ve met so many people and made so many friends through this wonderful game
Bridge results and awards
I’ve won the Helman Klinger award and the most improved master point award in the youth
National Titles
I’m not entirely sure what this encompasses – but Markey and I came second in the Gerda Stern mixed pairs (spring nationals) 2024?
State Representation
I’ve represented QLD in the ANC in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
National / International Representation
I represented Australia on the U26 women’s team in Poland in 2024, and on the U26 team in Italy last year.
