How did you get started in Bridge? At what age? Who do you learn from?
I learnt from Laura and Pete at youth nights in about 2013, then started coming to youth nights again when I met one of my partners at a chess club. I ask Liam, James, Doecke, and Nick a lot of questions and they’re all super awesome and helpful!!
What do (did) you do professionally?
Currently studying IT to (maybe) have a career in data analytics
Who is your partner and for how long? Longest Partnership?
My partner at the moment is Kate Macdonald who I’ve played with for about 6 months. My longest partnership is with Matt Sieredzinski who was my main partner for almost two years, though I still play with him regularly now.
If you had a choice who would you like to play with? Australia and Internationally – living or dead.
There are a few people I think it would be really fun to have a game with, Nick Jacob is probably my top choice.
In your playing career, what is the bridge success that has the most meaning for you?
Going from last to 1st in trials in one year was pretty amazing. Winning the pair datums at anc 2024 was probably the thing that boosted my confidence the most though
And your worst moment in bridge?
I’ve had a few bad moments with not so great claims.
What do you do between sessions to put you in the best frame of mind for the following sessions?
Ideally not talk about the hands too much, just trying to relax and be positive
Do you have a favourite and least favourite convention?
I like 2NT as a competitive raise, and I hate 3-way club and gambling 3NT
Would you prefer to have more system or less?
More system is good, as long as both partners agree that more system is good
What do you to do to improve your game?
Ask for lots of advice, practice online a fair bit, and watch some commentary online.
Favourite bridge book
I’ve barely read any bridge books, but Kantar for the defence is pretty good
What interests or hobbies do you have besides bridge?
I like playing the piano, playing games, doing crosswords and recently cooking a bit more
What is the number one thing that bridge has done for you as a person and for your life?
Meeting Kate is obviously the biggest thing, but I’ve made so many other close friends too.
