Nabil Edgtton

How did you get started in bridge? At what age? Who from?

Dad taught my brother and me when we were 7 and 8, then Peter Gill took over from there.

What do (did) you do professionally?

Play bridge

Who is your partner and for how long? Longest partnership?

Andy Hung – we’ve been playing on and off since we were kids – must be my longest partnership. 😊

If you had a choice who would you like to play with? Australia and Internationally- living or dead?

Michael Whibley – the guy’s a beast.

In your playing career, what is the bridge success that has the most meaning for you?

I’d say our silver medal at the World Transnationals (losing to Fisher-Schwartz), although winning the Gold Coast teams with my friend who I’d taught bridge only a few months earlier was pretty cool.

And your worst moment in bridge?

Too many to choose from – I’ll say our bronze medal match loss in Taicang at the World Youth Championships

What do you do you do between sessions to put you in the best frame of mind for the following session?

Get some sun, light exercise and avoid overeating

Do you have a favourite and least favourite convention?

Mini NT at 1st/2nd seat favourable is probably my favourite. Least favourite I’ll say rigid HCP ranges

Would you prefer to have more system or less?

Always more.

What do you do to improve your game?

Try to improve my fitness and focus.

Favourite bridge book?

Rodwell files.

What interests or hobbies do you have besides bridge?

Lots of sport – basketball, tennis, golf, the gym. Otherwise wine, food and friends are a great combo. 😊

What is the number one thing that bridge has done for you as a person and for your life?

There are too many positives to pick one but aside from the obvious it’s taught me to deal with adversity, control my emotions and to be an ethical person. I think if every kid on earth learnt bridge the world would be a better place.
