Ben Thompson

The Australian Bridge Federation is delighted to congratulate Ben Thompson on his election to the World Bridge Federation Committee of Honour — the first Australian to receive this distinction.

The WBF Committee of Honour was established in 1972 to recognise individuals whose unselfish efforts have made a significant contribution to the enhancement and growth of bridge throughout the world.

Election to the Committee is an exceptional distinction. A candidate must be nominated by at least three members of the WBF Executive Council from three separate Zones and receive the support of three-quarters of the Executive Council. The Committee is limited to no more than 13 living members.

Members of the Committee of Honour are also awarded the WBF Gold Pin, the highest award bestowed by the World Bridge Federation.

Ben’s election recognises his many years of outstanding contribution to bridge in Australia, the South Pacific and internationally. He has served Australian bridge in a wide range of leadership and administrative roles and has represented Zone 7 at the World Bridge Federation for a number of years. He is currently WBF First Vice-President and continues to serve on a number of WBF committees and initiatives.

Alongside his contribution to bridge administration, Ben has also enjoyed a distinguished playing career, representing Australia at both junior and open level and competing successfully at world championship level.

To become the first Australian elected to the WBF Committee of Honour is a remarkable achievement and an honour of which the entire Australian bridge community can be proud.
