Ada Sun

How did you get started in Bridge? At what age? Who do you learn from?

I started playing bridge when I was 12 two years ago. I started when my dad met up with one of his old friends and he started playing bridge again. The he taught me how to play it. It was also nice learning something new when you just start high school.

What do (did) you do professionally?

I am a student (9) and athlete.

Who is your partner and for how long? Longest Partnership?

My partner is Alex Wu, he’s been my partner since I started 2 years ago.

If you had a choice who would you like to play with? Australia and Internationally – living or dead.

Jess He, we had so much fun playing each other at Canberra

In your playing career, what is the bridge success that has the most meaning for you?

The biggest success was probably Canberra this year, I didn’t expect to make the finals or make any team. I was really happy that we did very well.

And your worst moment in bridge?

Definitely ANZAC day congress this year. I was playing a board with Anthony, he opened 2NT (20-21) I had 16hcp, bid puppet Stayman, he responded 3H, I bid 4NT. Which we hadn’t discussed yet, he thought it was QUANT, I thought it was Roman. Anyways he ended up thinking for a while then passing. When the lead was played, he said “Oh no I am getting executed aren’t I.” It was a terrible board AND it was a teams match.

What do you do between sessions to put you in the best frame of mind for the following sessions?

I swim a lot and it’s kinda my therapy.

Do you have a favourite and least favourite convention?

Favourite convention is Bergen Raise, but Alex and I call it Booogan Raise. Least favourite definitely Lebensohl, ended up in 6NT for some reason once. Went down too many.

Would you prefer to have more system or less?

Less

What do you to do to improve your game?

Favourite bridge book

What interests or hobbies do you have besides bridge?

Swimming – national medalist, changed my life. Athletics, cross country, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, YAPPING

What is the number one thing that bridge has done for you as a person and for your life?

Bridge has made me talk less, think more from someone else’s perspective. First thing I’ve really done that requires so much teamwork. Made me learn to be patient with other players.
