ABF Annual General Meeting May 9, 2020

An abbreviated 2020 AGM was held virtually on May 9th to attend to pressing matters of the Federation. The meeting agreed to defer all non-essential matters to a Special General Meeting scheduled for November 21, 2020

Election of Management Committee:

The ABF Management Committee for 2020 – 2022 was elected unopposed:

President – Allison Stralow (WA)

Secretary – Kim Frazer (Vic)

Treasurer – Ian Thomson (ACT)

MC Members: Adel Abdelhamid (SA); Rob Ward (NSW)

The President thanked the outgoing Treasurer Roy Nixon (ACT) and MC members Richard Wallis (Qld) and Dallas Cooper (Tas) for their extensive contributions and service to the ABF.

Committee of Honour Elections

The ABF Council unanimously elected Mr Roy Nixon to the Committee of Honour. In moving this motion, the President noted the following:

Mr Roy Nixon was the President of the Bridge Federation of the Australian Capital Territory from 2006 to 2017.  In 2007 he became an Ordinary Member of the ABF Management Committee and in April 2008 he was elected as the Treasurer of the ABF, a position he held for 12 years.  Roy worked diligently to always make sure the budget balanced and to stay up-to-date on accounting standards and tax laws. This resulted in the ABF implementing new standards that ensured a smooth audit at the fiscal year-end. A brief statement cannot do justice to his efforts on behalf of the ABF and bridge in Australia.

ABF Constitution

A motion to replace the Constitution in its entirety with the document entitled ‘ABF Constitution 2020’ as circulated to the ABF Council on 9 April 2020 was proposed and passed, receiving the necessary three-quarters majority of Council votes. The ABF Secretary will circulate the amended Constitution to States and Territories for their approval.
