Alan Turner honoured in New Year’s Honours for services to bridge

Alan Turner has been awarded a Queen’s Service Medal in New Zealand’s 2018 New Year’s Honours for “services to the game of bridge”.

Over the years Alan has been a very good friend to Australian  bridge in administrative matters, especially in the years from the early 1990s when strenuous efforts were being made by both the ABF and the NZCBA to bring the two countries closer together and to expand Zone 7.

Alan  was no slouch at the bridge table either.  He has represented his country internationally on several occasions in both Open and Seniors competition.  Perhaps the highlight of his bridge career was his captaincy of the New Zealand Women’s Team that won the PABF in Shanghai in 2006.
