Australian players have delivered an outstanding performance at the 5th Bonus Asia Cup Bridge Championships, held in Goa, India in June.
Australia finished first on the overall medal tally, collecting four medals across the teams and pairs events, including two gold, one silver and one bronze. It was an exceptional performance and one that everyone involved in Australian bridge should be proud of.

Mixed Teams – Bronze
Third: Australia A — Christy Geromboux, Sebastian Yuen, Dagmar Neumann, Maurits van der Vlugt, Cathryn Herden & Matthew Thomson
Women’s Pairs – Gold

Well done to the Australian Seniors Team on winning gold. This was one of the major Australian highlights of the tournament, with Australia defeating India B in the final to claim the title. The win reflected the experience and strength of our Seniors players and was a terrific achievement.
Congratulations also to Barbara Travis and Lori Smith, who won gold in the Women’s Pairs. Winning a pairs championship at this level requires both outstanding bridge and remarkable consistency over a demanding event, making this an exceptional result.
George Kozakos and Hugh Grosvenor also performed superbly to claim silver in the Men’s Pairs after a strong campaign against an excellent field. Their performance added another outstanding medal to Australia’s tally.
Australia A also secured a podium finish in the Mixed Teams, earning bronze and completing an outstanding overall campaign for the Australian team.
The Asia Cup is one of the premier regional championships, attracting many of Asia’s strongest players and teams. To have Australian players reach the podium in four events, including two championship victories, is a tremendous achievement.
Australia’s performance was further highlighted by finishing first on the overall medal tally. As the Australian Bridge Federation continues its focus on strengthening Australia’s international performance, results like these are extremely encouraging. They demonstrate that Australian players are capable of competing with—and defeating—the best teams and partnerships in the region. (NDTV Sports)
Congratulations to all of the Australian players, captains, coaches and supporters involved. Representing Australia is a significant honour, and these results are a credit to everyone who contributed to this outstanding success.
