Expressions of Interest for Asia Cup
This year’s Asia Cup is being held in Goa, India from 21 to 27 June. Information regarding the event can be found here: 5th Asia Cup Bridge
Australia will be represented at the event in all four categories by teams that qualified through the recent Playoffs.
The ABF has been invited to register a second Australian team in the Mixed, Women’s and Seniors’ categories.
In line with ABF policy, we are now seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from players wishing to form a team.
Teams will be selected at the discretion of the ABF Tournament Committee. The selection criteria will be teams of two or three pairs of strong demonstrated partnership performance that are likely to contribute to current and future Australian international team performances.
Expressions of interest may include a short statement as to how they meet the selection criteria, although this is not obligatory.
If you would like to submit an EOI, please provide details of the two or three partnerships in your proposed team to the Chair of the ABF Tournament Committee, Liam Milne at tcchair@abf.com.au by no later than 5.00 pm AEST on Friday 24 April. Please include in your EOI who would be the captain of your team. Captains may be playing members of the team or non-playing captains.
If you would prefer to submit an EOI as a pair and be considered for inclusion with other pair(s) on a team, you may do so on the understanding that you are prepared to participate with any pair.
Players are advised of the following requirements:
- All players nominated must be eligible to play for Australia as per the ABF’s Eligibility to represent Australia Policy.
- Teams wishing to participate shall comprise two or three pairs. Players are only able to nominate in one team or partnership. Contingent nominations or nominations in multiple categories will not be accepted.
- Mixed teams require all partnerships to consist of one male and one female player.
- Seniors’ teams require all participants to have been born prior to 1 January 1962.
If your team or partnership is selected to play, the ABF will cover the entry fees and provide team uniforms. Players will be responsible for all other costs. As representatives of Australia, all players will be required to sign the ABF’s International Representative Player Agreement.
