Masterpoint Centre Manager – Expression of Interest

After many years of service to the Australian Bridge Federation, David Weston has advised the ABF that he will conclude his engagement as Masterpoint Centre Manager in January 2027.

David has performed this important role for the ABF for many years and has accumulated an enormous amount of knowledge about the operation of Australia’s masterpoint system. We thank him for his considerable contribution to the ABF and Australian bridge.

The ABF is now seeking expressions of interest from people interested in becoming our next Masterpoint Centre Manager.

The successful applicant will work alongside David during a handover period commencing no later than one month before he finishes and will then assume responsibility for the operation of the Masterpoint Centre.

This appointment comes at an important time.

The ABF is currently undertaking a significant redevelopment of its technology, including the integration of Masterpoint Centre functionality into MyABF. This work is intended to simplify processes and substantially reduce the amount of manual administration currently required.

We are therefore looking for someone who is comfortable both learning and operating the current processes and helping us transition to a new way of working.

The successful applicant will ideally be someone who:

  • has a strong customer-service orientation and communicates well with clubs, administrators and ABF members;
  • is methodical, accurate and comfortable working with detailed processes and numerical data;
  • is confident using technology and learning new systems;
  • enjoys investigating and resolving problems;
  • has strong attention to detail;
  • is committed to delivering to deadlines;
  • can work independently and reliably; and
  • is comfortable working in a role that will evolve as new technology and processes are introduced.

Experience with masterpoints, bridge administration, scoring systems or MyABF will be invaluable, but applicants do not necessarily need to be current experts in the masterpoint system provided they have the ability and willingness to learn.

Initially, the position will need to support the activities currently undertaken by the Masterpoint Centre Manager on a full-time basis. As the Masterpoint Centre redevelopment is completed, the amount of manual work required is expected to reduce considerably. The hours associated with the position are therefore also expected to reduce, although the timing and extent of that change cannot yet be determined.

We expect the successful applicant to commence in early December 2026, allowing approximately one month for handover and training with David.

Anyone interested in the position is invited to submit an Expression of Interest outlining their relevant experience and why they believe they would be suited to the role.

As we are a relatively small community, we recognise that the ideal candidate may not tick every box. If the role interests you, please don’t let that discourage you from registering your interest — we may be able to work around particular gaps in experience or availability.

Expressions of Interest close 18 September, 2026.

Further information about the role and a copy of the job description can be obtained from ABF Executive Director David Fryda at david.fryda@abf.com.au
